More About Milk, Calcium And Other Problems

When you talk about calcium -- someone is always going to ask about milk.

So what's wrong with milk? Well---Milk in not healthy because calcium in milk is not well absorbed by humans and even less so when homogenized.

There isn't enough magnesium in milk.

There's evidence that the antibodies the body makes to digest milk are closely related to the antibodies that destroy islet cells (insulin producers) in the pancreas in cases of juvenile diabetes.

A large percentage of the milk we buy contains traces of one, more, or all, of pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers, and Bovine Growth Hormone.

But what about the good health and "strong bones" claims you hear from America's Dairy Farmers and Milk Processors (the people with the milk moustache)?

Copy this! A 12-year Harvard study of 80,000 nurses showed that a high intake of milk appeared to actually increase the risk of bone fractures. And other studies have shown mounting evidence that milk may play a role in a variety of health problems, including prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis, anemia, MS, and leukemia.

What about skim milk?

Skim milk is also homogenized and the homogenization process breaks up an enzyme called xanthine oxidase, which in its altered (smaller) state can enter the bloodstream and react against arterial walls causing the body to protect the area with a layer of cholesterol. That's the beginning of plaque formation and clogged arteries.

Pasteurization of milk, which destroys harmful bacteria, also destroys much needed enzymes through its heating process (enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 118 degrees F and higher). Added to that, the skimming process, the removal of the milk fat, makes the remaining nutrients more difficult for your body to absorb.

Calcium is better absorbed in the presence of milk fat and the high amount of fat in whole milk is excellent for very-fast-growing baby cows, not baby people!

If you are into dairy products, a better bet are cultured products such as kefir, yogurt, and enzymatically altered products like cheese, etc.

Best way to get your calcium is through a goodly dose of green vegetables and a good supplement.

Yours in good health,
