Starbucks Protest Are you drinking rBGH laced milk? June 15th to 25th will be a National Week of Action protesting Starbucks policy relating to the milk they are serving and the coffee they are using. Despite over five years of grassroots pressure, Starbucks continues to serve milk from cows that are injected with genetically engineered recombinant bovine growth hormone, also known as rBGH or rBST. Understand that virtually every industrial country, except for the United States, has banned the sale of rBGH milk. |

Milk produced from cows injected with rBGH poses serious dangers to human health and the general welfare to dairy cows. Is it a wonder that when it comes to the general health of a nation, the United States is number 76 on the list, and number 1 in medical costs? Starbucks coffee houses, which blanket the USA, are, without question, the most popular of coffee houses serving multi-millions of people daily. The majority of their customers drink their lattes, cappuccinos, and other milk laden coffees daily. Imagine the negative impact on their health. We are a nation of sickies, and Starbucks has helped put us there, and is helping to keep us there. Ronnie Cummins, national director of OCA (Organic Consumer Association) leader of this protest, said "Despite repeated pledges, Starbucks is still loading up its coffee drinks with rBGH (recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone) and anti-biotic tainted milk.” Where there is rBGH, there are always serious infections which must be controlled by anti-biotics. The time has come to kick rBGH off the market, once and for all. If Starbucks, a major buyer of milk, were to reject rBGH dairy products, we could effectively eliminate it from the market. So---------- What I’m going to ask you to do is go into Starbucks and talk to the manager and tell him/her you won’t be buying their coffee any more until they put a sign in their window that says “We no longer serve milk that contains rBGH bovine growth hormone.” All of you Starbucks lovers need to do this and mean it! Check out other coffee houses and find those that do not serve rBGH laced milk and make your purchases there. You will be the better off for it. Please pass the word along and let’s make Starbucks Protest Week a big hit! Make them get the message. The Organic Consumer Association is pushing this big time, and so must we. On a similar note, Starbucks only gives lip service to supporting Fair Trade coffee. Fair Trade coffee only represents about 3.7% of their coffee purchases. That’s a pitiful showing. My wife and I only buy Fair Trade coffee. It makes the difference between a coffee farmer being able to make a living or living in poverty. Given their greed in purchasing policy on milk and coffee beans, I consider Starbucks to be a bad company. Their indifference to the plight and suffering of coffee bean growers and the total disregard for the health of their customers needs to be met with a total boycott of Starbucks coffee shops until such time when Starbucks will serve Fair Trade coffee only, and milk that is not contaminated with rBGH. To your good health and longevity.
